History and Mission of the PCADD

Mission

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence-Pasadena is dedicated to the reduction and prevention of addictive illness in all its forms. The Council promotes recovery and enlightened awareness and seeks always to combat the discrimination and stigma associated with alcoholism and drug addictions.

History

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence--Pasadena is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1949 to educate public awareness of alcoholism as a treatable illness and to facilitate individuals, families, and communities in responding effectively to the enormous problems associated with alcoholism and alcohol abuse. As other forms of substance abuse and drug addiction became National issues of concern in the 60's and 70's the Council broadened it mission to include all chemical dependencies.

Throughout our history, NCADD has directly assisted individuals, families, and businesses through its much-needed information, assessment, referral, and crisis intervention services. Over the years, our education and prevention programs have reached out to hundreds of thousands of children and youth in virtually every school, public and private, in the West San Gabriel Valley. NCADD has helped schools and school districts develop programs for young substance abusers and children of alcoholics; and has created nationally-recognized prevention curricula and other educational materials, with national and international distribution.

Today, NCADD is still innovating, creating, facilitating and leading with programs such as Comprehensive Outpatient Counseling Services , Recovery Support/Case Management, the Employee Assistance Resource Network, Underwrite a Recovery, Professional Training Institutes, Latino outreach, specialized support services for recovering mothers and their families, court-based assessment and referral, and a wide range of education and recovery group services.
